Shorei Kempo Karate - "Tang Dynasty progressive fighting methods" is a mix of old school Japanese, Chinese, & Okinawan Arts used non-competitively for self defense and self improvement.
Our Kempo training is an alternative method for increasing fitness and well being through a traditional oriental system aimed at helping internal and external energy development with breathing exercises. Beginners are welcome and it is ideal for mature students who enjoy a technical class aimed at obtaining the most effect results though conservative physical exertion.
We teach a full Self Defense Fighting System which uses... Blocks, Strikes, Kicks, Locks, Chokes, Ground Defense, Weapons, Mutiple Opponents, Kata/ Forms, Traditional Weapons, Evasive Footwork, Vital Point Methods, Anatomical Weapon Development, through to Impact Training with all combat ranges covered against armed & armed opponents.
All is taught through a progressive syllabus from beginners to Black Belt and beyond however no previous experience is necessary and physical build and current fitness levels are not important. Students can learn in a relaxed friendly training environment where only only practical methods are taught. There is NO high exertion, Acrobatics, High Kicks, Impossible Throws, Break Falling or Rolling on the floor. We have mixed ability class with no hierarchy where everyone helps each other.
